Suspect Detained at Veteran's Memorial Square

by LA1 News

Police officers from LAPD's Northeast Division detained a male suspect at the southwest corner of York Boulevard and Figueroa Street on Monday evening at 5:50 pm. According to the suspect, who would only offer his first name, "Chris," the officers drove their squad car up into the Veteran's Memorial Square from the corner and accused him of previously jaywalking across Figueroa Street from the northwest corner of the intersection. Chris says that accusation was a lie, adding that the crosslight still had the white-colored image lit when he decided to cross and was not yet showing the red numerical countdown. "It was just an excuse they used to harass me," he said. The officers detained Chris for 30 minutes, searching all of his belongings repeatedly and running a thorough check of his identification for any outstanding warrants.
